Fairfield Ohio Covenant Community Church
History

Our congregation is part of The Evangelical Covenant Church. This denomination, headquartered in Chicago, was founded in 1885 and has grown to include over 600 churches with 100 missionaries who serve around the world.

Mid 1970’s: Developer Pastor Robert Honette gathered interested parties in the greater Fairfield area and began meeting in homes. Soon afterwards, our first pastor, Donald Pearson, was called to Fairfield. Soon after Pastor Pearson’s arrival the congregation began meeting in the Fairfield YMCA. Attendance grew to approximately 50 to 60 by early 1980s.

1986: Pastor Pearson accepted a call to become the Chaplain at the Covenant’s retirement home in San Diego, CA and the congregation called Wayne Smith to be CCC’s new pastor.

1987: The church began meeting in the Chapel Ridge Reception Center for several years and attendance grew to well over 100.

Early 1990’s:After the Chapel Ridge complex was sold and the new owner raised the church’s rent to an unaffordable level the church moved out and began meeting at Fairfield  South Elementary School. Shortly thereafter the congregation decided it needed a more “permanent” meeting place and located a vacant building which had housed a car dealer which had ufficient room for both worship and Sunday school classes.

Mid 1990’s: A building committee was formed to find the church a permanent meeting place.  The capital fund drive generated over $200,000 in three-year pledges and ground was broken at the current building location.

1996: Construction was completed and attendance in the late 1990s was regularly reached 150 to 160 on Sunday mornings.

2000: Pastor Smith accepted a call to become the pastor of Harvard Covenant Church in Tacoma Washington.

2001: Pastor Beckstrom was called to Fairfield as CCC’s Pastor. Attendance remained around 150 to 160.

2004: A building program was commenced to add needed office space and a full-sized elevator. A building campaign generated over $300,000 in three-year pledges

2005: The building addition was completed. Jim Chester was called to be our Associate Pastor and Minister of Family Life.

2010: Pastor Beckstrom accepted a call to become the Senior Pastor of the Northbrook, IL Covenant Church. Pastor Chester accepted Council’s request to be CCC’s interim pastor while the search committee conducts the search for our new full time Pastor.

2011: Pastor Chester was called to be Senior Pastor of the church.
